In the winter of 2018, theatre maker Tom Struyf travelled through the US. In a small village close to the Canadian border he discovered the ruins of an old psychiatric institution. He quickly uncovered parallels with the psychiatric hospital in Geel, Belgium. Inspired by the desolate landscape, the church community and the stories of residents, Struyf decided to create a performance about this special place. In the meantime, he has been back to Willard ten times with his team, always with a camera in his hand and a generous dose of empathy. Finding Willard will be a filmic, multimedia performance. A captivating road trip about mental health and solidarity, in which the audience sits on three grandstands around a model, as if you are walking around in the village yourself.
