Yuval Rozman
The Jewish Hour - Director's Cut
Yuval Rozman reflects on current events with bitter humour in The Jewish Hour.
The Jewish Hour becomes The Jewish Hour - Director's Cut
Due to the escalating violence between Israel and Palestine, two actors of The Jewish Hour have decided not to perform. The artistic team received personal threats after the performances in Lyon (FR) a few weeks ago. However, the director, Yuval Rozman, who deserted from the Israeli army when he was 20, does not want to give in to the fear and therefore proposes a new performance*.
Yuval Rozman: "As an Israeli, coming here wasn't an easy decision to make and puts me in a disturbing position. I would like to invite you to an evening with excerpts from the performance The Jewish Hour, my own reflections, and an open dialogue with the audience on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I present this evening together with Gaël Sall and Christophe Fougou."
DE SINGEL understands and empathizes with the actors' decisions. We support Yuval Rozman in his decision to offer an alternative. From his critical view of the conflict, as an art house we opt for open dialogue.
DE SINGEL stands for connecting people and communities through art. The outbreak of brutal and abusive violence against innocent civilians in Palestine, Israel, Ukraine, Sudan and many other regions touches us deeply. As an arts organization, we condemn all forms of violence and feel solidarity with all victims and those forced to live in degrading conditions.
In agreement with Yuval Rozman, ticket proceeds from this evening will go to The Parents Circle - Families Forum (PCFF). This Palestinian-Israeli organization brings together families who have lost a loved one in the conflict. PCFF actively works for peace, promoting their methodologies and message through educational materials, lectures and media.

About the original performance:
The Jewish Hour is on air for the first time. This new radio programme features discussions on contemporary events. Everything is running smoothly, until a live incident turns the broadcast into a comedy about a people, their obsessions and their neuroses that is both lively and brutal.
In The Jewish Hour, writer and director Yuval Rozman, who deserted from the Israeli army at the age of 20, explores what it means to be Jewish today. The performance is the second part of Rozman’s quadriptych about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In it, his aim is to testify to the direct links between Judaism, Zionism and the conflict that persists between the two peoples who live in the same region. Bitter humour, music and video art come together in this bitingly critical, theatrical self-reflection.
