Amygdala originated at the Antwerp Conservatory on the initiative of the saxophonist Kurt Van Herck. The trio pays tribute to the Tunisian composer and oud player Anouar Brahem. Tradition and innovation are a thread that runs though his oeuvre: Brahem interweaves traditional Arabian music with contemporary compositions which allow plenty of room for improvisation. Through Brahems's music the programme evolves towards the trio's own compositions and works that lie close to their hearts, always with the focus on melody and tranquillity.
