'Mr. Tambourine Man' is a song cycle by John Corigliano with lyrics by Bob Dylan. This Conservatory project combines Corigliano's music with covers and original material by two jazz students. We are told that when he composed these songs Corigliano had never even heard a single song by Dylan: '…I was so engaged in developing my orchestral technique in the years when the rest of the world was listening to Dylan that I had never actually heard his songs…'. 'Mr. Tamourine Man' places the aesthetics of classical music alongside that of the folk ballad so as to render the meaning of the lyrics by completely different means. This concert is the captivating result of collaboration between students, teachers and alumni of the classical music and jazz courses.
