Prokofiev originally wrote the 'Five Melodies' as vocalises for soprano and piano. In these five stunning miniatures he shows us his most expressive and lyrical side. Brahms composed his horn trio only a few months after his mother's death. The work comprises nostalgic echoes from his childhood. He derives his melodies from his favourite German folk songs and opts for the horn (which he learned to play in his youth) rather than the usual cello.
