An alternative view of Vaslav Nijinsky's mythical 1912 solo, set to the equally famous impressionistic music by Claude Debussy based on Stéphane Mallarmé's poem of sexual awakening. The faun of Greek mythology - half man, half animal man - meets woman, and the roles are outstandingly performed by James O'Hara and Daisy Phillips. Choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui puts all his cards on sensuality and the osmosis between male and female energy and on huge earthliness. To complete the picture we have the perfectly integrated contemporary musical touches of composer Nitin Sawhney and costumes by fashion designer Chalayan: an absolute jewel!
