Lisbeth Gruwez started her stage career with a star role in Jan Fabre's 'Je suis sang'. She was also very successful as a dancer in 'Quando l'uomo principale é una donna', the solo Jan Fabre created specially for her. In the meantime she has also taken her first steps as a choreographer. 'Birth of Prey' is the second performance she has created with her new production group called 'Voetvolk'. In this piece she is both animal and human, an animal human being who is at the same time a predator and her own prey. Instinct, physicality and love are therefore the key concepts on which Lisbeth Gruwez has based this dance solo. Every time we see her we are deeply impressed by her imposing stage presence and her body, which can twist in every possible direction. She appears on stage with the drummer Dave Schroyen and guitarist Maarten Van Cauwenberghe. Together they build a wall of sound around her, like a cage around a frenzied animal.
