The young Brick Quartet makes energetic music with a cinematic character. Their work is boisterous one moment and the next melancholic with more and more room for individual and collective improvisation. In July 2004 Mathias Van de Wiele formed the Brick Quartet as a result of a desire to create a platform for acoustic jazz improvisation. Their work on their own repertoire has resulted in a set of compositions and improvisations. Each composition has its own story line and balances in the field of tension between jazz and classical music, improvisation and song-writing. In a highly original band comprising guitar, drums, cello and clarinet, the Brick Quartet serves up a dynamic mix of chamber music and jazz.
