'Viewmaster', an installation by the choreographers Heike Langsdorf and Ula Sickle in association with the artist Laurent Liefooghe, is a reinterpretation of the Pepper's ghost illusion: an optical trick frequently used in nineteenth-century theatre before the invention of cinema. A glass wall separates the audience and the performer. Depending on the angle of light, the glass is sometimes transparent, sometimes reflects and sometimes both at the same time. Heike Langsdorf and Ula Sickle put this to good use and play a visual game of illusion and reality. 'Although the spectator knows the trick, you still enjoy the reflecting magic as if you were a child' says Pieter T'Jonck in De Morgen newspaper.
