Al Amin Dada is a music-theatre performance based on a new composition by the composer Lucien Goethals, who sadly died recently, with a libretto by Jelle Meander. The text is a combination of Swahili, English, Dutch, Latin and Jabberwocky. It is in fact a surrealistic dream poem about the bizarre life of the former Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin. In a series of fifteen scenes this character enjoys a well-earned coma. He is briefly 'el amin' the wise.
It is in this capacity that he views his deeds and words. At the same time he often thinks of his sister (dada) and suspects a western mzungu of stealing his life. This is followed by silence. Kugoga kwingi nwa kunwesanga mpasi, talking too much hurts the mouth.
Naturally it is up to the spectator to decide whether he believes all this or not.
