Marcelo Moncada is a saxophone player from Chile who has lived in Belgium for several years. As he wanted to form a musical group with various cultural roots he founded 'Space Quartet'. The result is a mixture ranging from Chilean Indian instruments to electronic fusion sounds and loops with an undertone of acoustic jazzy sounds. The quartet recently released its first CD recording, 'Tikitan'. Its success was not only evident during a grand tour of Chile, but has also made a breakthrough in Belgium. Although the whole of the new repertoire is by Moncada himself, it leaves plenty of room for collective improvisation.
