Moker is a jazz quartet from Ghent which was formed in October 2000 on the initiative of Mathias Van de Wiele (guitarist & composer), whose aim was to form a group that was prepared to experiment. Moker mainly performs its own work, comprising compositions that follow different musical paths and in which contrasts are never shunned. The repertoire is coloured with energetic improvisations, up-tempo swing and also serene ballads and open soundscapes, all of which are interwoven to form an organic whole which will delight many an adventurous listener. With a background of jazz and, like a lot of contemporary music, influences from a whole range of styles. Their live performance is an energetic set with plenty of interaction, conviction and a passion that speaks volumes.
