The Swiss quartet MONNO, who live in Berlin, are something else. A saxophonist, a bassist, a drummer and a live computer-player join forces. Distorted saxophone sounds (often unrecognisable as such) and computer improvisations are poured over a powerful rhythmic base, resulting in a noisy avant-garde sound with punk associations. Hard numbers alternate with minimal soundscapes, in which each instrument follows its own path before finally coming together once more in a live improvisation inspired by both by jazz, rock and noise.
