Osmosis is a 'working band' that comes together at least once a year for concert projects. The musicians know each other from other musical groups and unite around a number of shared fantasies. The Dutchmen Mark Haanstra (Agog) and Oene van Geel (Zapp! String Quartet) regularly explore Eastern music. The alto saxophonist Guillaume Orti (F) takes responsibility for several compositions, Afra Mussawisade is the Iranian percussionist and Chander Sardjoe provides Indian percussion. The band plays contemporary jazz with clear musical concepts and intercontinental influences. There are striking harmonies between sax and violin, and between the two percussionists.
The vocal improvisations and the way they seamlessly merge into instrumental lines are also quite exceptional. Osmosis offer their concerts on their website, which they think works better than a CD. Of course, it is even better to go to a live concert, like the one at dedonderdagen.
