'Integrating the recorder' sounds like a project using old-fashioned tape-recorders, but is more surprising than that. It focuses on the recorder - the musical instrument. Four young composers responded to a request from the recorder player Tomma Wessel and the ensemble Champ d'Action. What does the recorder have to offer a composer today? In their highly varied compositions the four composers use the whole range of instruments offered by Champ d'Action: piano, percussion, double bass, electric and acoustic guitar and live electronics. In addition, they integrate into this the broad range of instruments from the recorder family, from the fine sopranino to the man-sized square subbass recorder. All four are from a generation that specifically seeks influences from other disciplines and cultures, and are composers who move freely in the world of electronics, dance, video art and so on.
