Wixel is the indietronica outfit headed by the young Belgian musician Wim Maesschalck, one of the key figures in the Rarefish collective. One might describe his music as a warm and organic mixture of acoustic instruments and subtle electronic manipulations with a fine feeling for minor details.
In 2006 he created 'Heart', a charming debut performance by a young talented man whose heart is in the right place. Wixel manages to sound both sweet and odd at the same time. His music can be compared with that of so many bands ranging from Hood to Fennesz, from Helios and Mùm to Manyfingers and Sigur Rós. At present he is working on a new LP which will be released in the course of 2008.
