Radiant Nights #11
WEAVE
Fri 02 Feb 2024 - Sun 18 Feb 2024
Radiant Nights is a space for creation and experimentation four times a season. For two days, artists take over part of the building. In co-curation with the new collective WEAVE, we develop a rich weekend. The exhibition Pagne Africain is the starting point and the common thread throughout this festival.
Radiant Nights #11: WEAVE promises to be a rich tapestry based on sociologist Nyanchama Okemwa's unique collection of African textiles. For two days, DE SINGEL is dedicated to collective creative research. The WEAVE community explores where fashion, textiles, art, traditions and cultural heritage can intersect with activism and community building.
What binds us together? How do we weave history with the future? What knots do we make and which do we cut? What do we want to share with each other? Which designers, makers, artists do we want to make more visible, which do we want to give more recognition and appreciation to their creativity and talent? What are we missing and is there still to be discovered. Weave creates space for them.
Under the motto 'DO TOUCH', the hallways of DE SINGEL will be given extra texture and on the spot, WEAVE invites you to join them in spinning a collective moodboard for the expo. Get inspired by books, magazines, videos and films. Think and participate in workshops in the community hub, enjoy a powerful fashion show. Come and actively participate in a conversation with Baloji, Harris Elliott, Janice Deul and Nyanchama Okemwa. Enjoy a film festival in the Red hall and finally, share the 'kikao table' where you will share a meal and engage in conversation with other visitors.
Performance lovers can indulge in the latest concert performance by Calya J. and dance performance by Lara Dâmaso. Two not-to-be-missed pieces that seamlessly intertwine visual art with sound and dance. Also take a look at the Ballard Garden (Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster's pool in front DE SINGEL) for a video work by Max Kamina.
