Antwerp Queer Choir at DE SINGEL: singing, protest and queer connection. Sing along!
Antwerp Queer Choir was formed in 2023 as a graduation project for the Educational Master’s at the Royal Antwerp Conservatoire. DE SINGEL picked up the project as Art Educator in Residence and following a festive first performance, it was clear that this couldn’t be just a one-off phenomenon. In the meantime, the choir has some fifty enthusiastic members. In Antwerp Queer Choir, everyone can make their voice heard – regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. Traditional voice division has been thrown overboard, and singing experience is not essential. It is all about coming together and singing together, engaging in dialogue and connection. With RAGE/RAVE, a performance around queer protest in 2024, the choir made its first own production, which also marked the next step in their collaboration with DE SINGEL. In August 2025 they are participating in Queer Passion, a queer update of Bach’s St John Passion.
During Dear Antwerp, the singers will perform various musical highlights from all these projects in the skate park of Park Spoor Noord, from Monteverdi to Patti Smith, Will Ferdy to Chappell Roan. Singing along is absolutely allowed!
