Aynur is the star from Turkey. Born with Kurdish roots she fled with her family to Istanbul in her teens. She is the musical voice of the Kurds. In her music, Aynur seeks a synthesis of traditional Kurdish chants with modern Western jazz. Her lyrics allude to the suffering of her people, especially women, and tackle themes such as identity, love, pain and loss. Aynur brings 300-year-old musical traditions to life and sings straight from the heart.
