With Chucho Valdés - the ‘Duke Ellington of Cuba’ - we are bringing a piece of musical history to DE SINGEL. This jazz giant has more than eighty years on the clock, but still sets concert halls alight. In the nineteen seventies he played a new kind of Afro-Cuban jazz with his group Irakere, with influences from funk and fusion. Think sharp horns, funky basslines and virtuoso piano solos, infused with Cuban son rhythms and African congas. Now Valdés is playing alone, all these influences continue to shine through in his colourful and energetic piano playing.
