A musical tribute to the traveller's curiosity.Het Parool
In Echoing Travelogues: The Beyond and Us, composer and performer Emine Bostancı explores how travel and migration shape and transform cultural and musical identities.
Inspired by centuries of encounters between Ottoman, Persian and European worlds, the project revisits historical music as a lens through which to reflect on the present. Following in the footsteps of travellers and diplomats of the past, the performers arrive at a simple yet layered insight: in seeking to understand the other, we inevitably encounter ourselves.
By reactivating these intertwined histories, the work offers a contemporary reflection on identity, belonging and the imagination of the traveller. Together with the Turkish, Iranian and Dutch musicians of the Dareyn Ensemble, Bostancı interweaves historical texts, the sound of a unique Ottoman kemenche and the spatial possibilities of 4DSOUND.
The result is a musical journey in which voices, strings and moving sound surround the audience, carrying you through shifting spaces where memory, distance and presence blur into one immersive experience.
