The Quatuor Alfama and pianist Julien Libeer have shared a concert stage for a number of years and are now being joined by none other than Jodie Devos. They head to fin de siècle France, filled with colour, melancholy and expression. In ‘La chanson perpétuelle’ by Ernest Chausson, the despair and sadness of a lost love is sung in an exceptionally penetrating manner. The song cycle ‘La bonne chanson’ by Gabriel Fauré is considerably more convivial, with charming accounts of the virtues of love.
