Wannes Cappelle and pianist Nicolas Callot render Schubert Lieder in West Flemish!
West Flemish is the native tongue of Wannes Cappelle, frontman of and driving force behind Het Zesde Metaal. He understands the art of singing about complex reality in simple words. Cappelle is a frequent visitor to pianist Nicolas Callot, winner of, amongst others, the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria. He has already given recitals at deSingel and shares his love for composer Frans Schubert with his West Flemish friend. He asked him to translate several Schubert lieder into the plastic and poetic language with which he is so familiar. At Festival Kortrijk their idea became a reality and in autumn 2020 this was followed by a tour of Flanders! In our Blue Hall, listen to how Cappelle and Callot arrange Schubert’s work in their own unique way. Or to how German poetry suddenly becomes highly accessible.
