Who is this man? Ensor himself? He wanders through the theatre looking for his maker. He speaks gibberish. He wants to know who he is. Is he old nobility, past glory, or just nobody?
It is the story of a dashing artist who, understood by no one, follows his own path, averse to all concessions. To end up as a baron, as a trophy. Behind the mask is a man who does not understand himself.
Ensor est un fou is not a narrative, not a biography, not a documentary. It is a work of art. Oostenden artist Dries Vanhegen writes, translates, re-translates and plays Ensor. Austrian Serge Feys composes the music, which is performed live by a band.
