Irreverent, terribly intelligent and horribly funny.Etcetera
In-house artist Luanda Casella is skilled at casting sharp social criticism into an intelligent and playful mould. In Elektra Unbound, the format is an uneasy audition. Driven by ideas about fame and success, three performers give it their all to land the role of Elektra. Just like Aeschylus’ famous character, they are trapped in their own suffering. While interpreting iconic scenes from The Oresteia- the entire trilogy about Elektra and her dysfunctional family - they reveal their own disastrous lives. However, director Lua and her assistant Lucius fail to get Elektra onto the stage. Or was that never their intention?
Inspired by melodrama and social media, Elektra Unbound switches between scenes like the audience swipes across screens. Everything to keep the discomfort on stage easily digestible.
