Santiago de Chile, September 11, 1973. The army led by Augusto Pinochet stages a coup in which the then socialist president Allende is killed. Pinochet introduces a right-wing military dictatorship, the junta, which is guilty of human rights violations on a large scale. The world is watching. Shocked.
In ‘La Imaginación del Futuro’ the young theatre company La Resentida takes history for a ride. Several members of the present government go back in time to advise and help Allende in his last days as president. Will they be able to rewrite history and save democracy?
La Resentida, ‘resentment’ in Spanish, was founded in 2008 by a group of young actors from Santiago. They see it as their duty to take political responsibility and to dream of playing an instrumental role in criticizing and rebuilding their society. For each new production, they go in search of a poetic language that expresses what their peers think and feel. On stage, they do not shun taboos and are not afraid to provoke. Audiences can expect a sparkling and at times hilarious performance by young wolves who are determined to open our eyes.
