1h 20' During the last ACT festival, Rebekah White impressed audiences with her self-penned monologue ‘Ik weet er te weinig van’ (‘I don’t know much about it’). Before that she travelled to Berlin, Vienna, Paris, New York and Venice, seeking intellectual trends that had been very much alive there in the past.
For her new project, a coproduction by deSingel, Rebekah de Wit is inspired by the here and now. She listens carefully to what is being said around her, both in the news and on the bus, and writes down her critical reflections in a ‘joke book’. Please do not be fooled, she hasn’t written any jokes yet. However, she wants to investigate whether humour is not a good weapon with which she can attack the not always innocent world around her. Self-critical and thoughtful, de Wit puts on her jester’s outfit. Struggling with the legacy of postmodernism in which each person makes his own world and truth, she frantically searches for a way to broaden her own story. This is a writer who refuses to hide behind her pen, but goes on the stage to publicly think about the world and her responsibility in it.
This project is part of a collaboration with d e t h e a t e r m a k e r. In this theatre workshop, fledgling theatre-makers with a remarkable artistic profile get a chance to develop one or more projects from A to Z.
