PERMANENT DESTRUCTION is a melodramatic energy concert from theatre maker Naomi Velissariou and sound producer Joost Maaskant. A sexy show about self-loathing and unrequited love, with lethally poetic lyrics and a heavily overmodulated sound system. With genres varying from R&B to industrial hardcore and with excessive use of autotune and trap hop references. Naomi Velissariou drew inspiration from Sarah Kane (1971-1999), one of the most interesting playwrights of recent decades, whose psychological state sounded out with such uncompromising resonance in her work. The ruthless lyrics, beats and bass lines against the backdrop of Frederik Heyman’s video work lend the piece a monumental visual dimension.
“Naomi Velissariou presents the dark work of Sarah Kane in a clever balance of humour and supreme tragedy.” Volkskrant
