Last season, Dorothée Munyaneza presented an ode to female resilience and strength with Mailles. Now, together with her company Kadidi which she formed in 2013, the multidisciplinary artist returns to DE SINGEL to make space for suppressed voices. For Toi, moi, Tituba... Munyaneza was inspired by the discourse around the character of Tituba from the novel by Maryse Condé. As a black woman and so-called witch, Tituba gives a voice to those who are silenced by force. Those erased from history. Inspired by this story, Munyaneza tries to use her own body as a danced archive. By drawing on this, she wants to make suppressed voices audible, visible and tangible again. Toi, moi, Tituba… - which is co-produced by DE SINGEL - is an impressive ‘collective solo’. A multiplicity of voices and perspectives converge in a single body, so no one is forgotten.
