CARTA
VISUAL DISRUPTIONS
CARTA ‘24 opts for trend-setting makers who cause visual dislocations.
The second edition of the creation biennale CARTA confronts you for two full weekends with exciting new work by trendsetting artists. On the interface between different disciplines, they determine the course of the arts landscape. CARTA ‘24 opts for makers who bring about visual dislocations. How does an image work? How do we go beyond the dominance of the visual? How can a visual culture lead to new social constellations? You discover creations that navigate between extremes; away from or right up close to what we can see.
Choreographer Dorothée Munyaneza seeks out the boundaries between the auditive and the visual. The ensemble Bryggen sets to work with artificial intelligence to develop a new visual relationship to music. The YouYou group opts for sound immersion based on a route through the Red Hall. Theatre maker Ference Balcaen and cineast Bertrand Mandico create thrilling and visceral visual worlds from a queer narrative. Visual artists Polina Kanis and Agnieszka Polska put human obsessions into perspective. We find explicit political visual languages with director Phia Ménard and theatre maker Rimah Jabr. If spoken language no longer gives rise to political action, how can the visual then incite you to act?
With YouYou Group, Phia Ménard, Agnieszka Polska, Ferenc Balcaen, Bertrand Mandico, Rimah Jabr, Polina Kanis, Dorothée Munyaneza, Mathias Coppens/Bryggen, among others.
