Linyekula wanders through a debris-strewn landscape to the sounds of Mozart’s Requiem
Faustin Linyekula is one of the most striking choreographers of his generation. In his work, he immerses himself in the memory and the turbulent history of his homeland Congo. In Sur les traces de Dinozord, Linyekula takes us on a journey through the past and the Kisangani where he grew up as a child. It takes him past the cemetery where his childhood friend Richard Kabako lies buried, who died of the plague at an early age, but also past the infamous Makala prison in Kinshasa where dissident voices were tortured under the Kabila regime. To the tones of Mozart’s Requiem and Jimi Hendrix' guitar riffs, Linyekula wanders through a debris-strewn landscape together with 3 dancers, 2 actors and a singer, in search of what still remains of their dreams in a country that has been ravaged by war and dictatorship. Raw, physical, visual.
