Ein deutsches Requiem together with the Belgian première of Mansur by Samir-Odeh Tamimi
The singers of CHORWERK RUHR, one of Germany’s best vocal ensembles, are famous for both their vivacious solo parts, and for achieving a consummate fusion of voices in their choral sound. They open this concert with the Belgian premiere of Mansur by the Palestinian-Israeli composer Samir-Odeh Tamimi for large choir, brass and percussion. This work is an ode to the life, thinking and violent death of the Sufi mystic Mansur Al-Hallaj. CHORWERK RUHR links this work to Brahms' monumental requiem mass Ein deutsches Requiem. A human requiem, as Brahms himself once described this work.
