An evening not to be missed with work by France's most promising film director. During this evening you will hear Virgil Vernier speak, we will show two short films, and we will close with a concert by the famous composer and musician James Ferraro.
Virgil Vernier is a productive film maker, having already released 16 films, six of which were feature length. He is currently preparing a new short film and a new feature. For CARTA '22 he created a disruptive poster campaign. The posters themselves can be seen in the exhibition trail.
Programme:
Interview with Virgil Vernier by Robbrecht Desmet (20 min., live)
Pandore (35 min., 2010)
An evening in the life of a ruthless doorman in a Parisian nightclub. The lust for power, Kafkaesque injustice and nepotism in a nutshell.
Sapphire Crystal (31 min., 2019)
"You'll see how we party in Geneva," they repeat languidly on their luxurious sofas, dressed in their expensive clothes, as if it were a mantra or a self-fulfilling prophecy. They may be young and rich, but their drinking games and expensive coke do not feed their souls. "Sorry, this night sucked," they conclude, while admiring the neon signs of luxury brands, which they prefer to the stars - they shine brighter.
Concert James Ferraro
Ferraro composed music for some of Vernier's films. He is considered one of the pioneers of the vaporwave genre and hypnagogic pop. In his music he delves into the nightmares of post-modern life. Ferraro has already released dozens of albums under various pseudonyms. Time and again, he blurs the boundaries between genres and reinvents himself. Expect a mind-blowing concert.
