In all his work the Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli attempts to find new musical structures. His operas, radical music theatre and provocative symphonic compositions have given him an international name. Compared to his earlier work, his present musical vocabulary is largely based on a tabula rasa. This urge for experimentation has brought Battistelli into contact with Studio Azzurro, a group of artists from Milan who combine video, photographic work and interactive systems in a unique manner. La Chanson de Geste is a thirty-minute composition with video installation dating from 1989, to which Studio Azzurro has added a visual performance set to the live performance of Battistelli's score.
