The young Italian flautist Mario Caroli (b. 1974) is an exceptional musician. In only a very short period of time, he has become internationally known as a fervent advocate of contemporary compositions for flute. Indeed, his recital at the 2002 Ars Musica Festival was quite magnificent: the audience was amazed by his technique, and the power, poetry and musicality of his performance. For this concert however, he has opted for contemporary Italian composers only; most of the work has been composed for him and this will be the first time it has been performed in this country. The audience will also hear the first ever performance of a new piece by Lara Morciano, as well as work by other well-known names such as Salvatore Sciarrino and Yvan Fedele, and composers who are still mainly known in Italy.
This performance has been cancelled.
