Housing is the first publication in a series of four. The titles of the other three are Publieke ruimte, De Stad and Methoden. Together the four publications describe the search for a new paradigm for urban planning and architecture. In each case the investigation deconstructs the different layers that determine an urban state - housing, the public space and the city - to a programmatic, visual and legal concept. The book on Housing is the first of the series. The book regards the house as a storage place for personal goods, as the occupant's camouflage towards his environment, and as a place of residence. Throughout these three approaches living is deconstructed to a number of anecdotal fragments that maximise the individual story. The Housing book comprises drawings and projects alternated with five short stories written by Jannah Loontjens. The book has been published in several languages. In each language version, someone was asked to provide notes on the home. For the English-language version this is Johnny Golding, a doctor of philosophy, for the Dutch-language version the artist Suchan Kinoshita and for the French-language version the curator Catherine David.
