Odds on, a jazz project initiated by Tom Van Dyck, aims to fuse the harmonic and melodic vocabulary of the jazz tradition and the rhythmic language that originates in East European and Indian traditions. This was done initially by adapting bebob and hardbop compositions and jazz standards. At present this has resulted in Tom Van Dyck's own compositions, in which these elements are interwoven. These different backgrounds are also expressed in the ensemble. Kris Duerinckx is an experienced jazz drummer who plays in both the free jazz and 'odd meter' scenes. For this performance, Roman Korolik will be replacing Mark Haanstra on the electric bass. Guitarist Andres Suntrop is very much influenced by John Scofield, Jim Hall, Thelonious Monk and Bill Frisell. Suntrop's electric guitar allows him to experiment with different sounds. Tom Van Dyck's musical roots go back to Tristano adepts such as Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh. In addition to this he has also been very much influenced by the great creators of atmosphere such as Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Kenny Wheeler, Pat Metheny and John Scofield. This special symbiosis guarantees an exciting listening experience with great ambience and virtuosity.
