When four unlikely talents come together, you know there will be a musical fireworks display that will leave your eyes and ears in awe. Belgian-Japanese jazz pianist Alex Koo and saxophone and beat prodigy Andrew Claes accompany Carmien Michels' impressionable voice and Seckou Ouologuem's irresistible rhythms. Together, they will demonstrate that word art and hiphop form a cross-fertilising symbiosis, enriching and strengthening one another. Carmien Michels became the 2016 European slam poetry champion and was shortlisted for the Boekenbon Literature Prize with her book Vaders die rouwen. Seckou is one of the founding fathers of slam in Flanders, his passion grew out of rap cyphers with friends. Take to that the unparalleled piano melodies of Alex Koo - he can also be experienced in the Blue Hall later this season - and the beats of Andrew Claes and you get a golden formula that will inspire any value-added seeker. Hiphop takes on an even more poetic meaning at this concert.
