Caterina Barbieri - hypnotic electronica with orchestra.
The Italian composer and modular synth virtuoso Caterina Barbieri is renowned for her hypnotic, sequencer-driven electronic music. In her work, she explores the relationship between machine intelligence, human perception, and emotional, almost ecstatic states of consciousness. Using repetitive patterns and complex generative techniques, she creates trance-like soundscapes in which time, memory, and perception are constantly shifting.
Barbieri has performed at leading festivals and art institutions across the globe. She also founded the label light-years, a platform for deep listening and experimental music; and is currently Artistic Director of the Biennale Musica in Venice. At DE SINGEL, she presents both a solo performance with visuals by MFO and a collaboration with ONCEIM - the Orchestre de Nouvelles Créations, Expérimentations et Improvisations, an ensemble of over 30 musicians from jazz, contemporary music, and improvisation.
Together, they perform Non puoi contare l’infinito, a work for orchestra, voices, and electronica. Building on Barbieri’s electronic practice, the composition explores themes of origin, separation, and transformation. The orchestra becomes a living microcosm in which the relationship between the finite and the infinite becomes audible.
