Experience Zinay!: poetry and music merge in an intense and haunting ritual.
For poet Peter Verhelst, the word ‘zinay’ is a totem, an exclamation that offers both protection and space. It also became the key to his collaboration with musician and composer Mattias De Craene. Together, they search for a shared language of word, sound, and ritual. In 2017, they met during a poetry evening. What started as a conversation about music and language grew into a joint practise.
In Zinay! word and sound merge into a single experience. Verhelst recites an incantatory litany in which death is given a different name again and again. De Craene’s music unfolds as a landscape of pulsating sounds.
Light, voice, and sound take the audience on an intense journey of grief, beauty, and hope. A contemporary ritual that shows rather than tells.
