Marc Vanrunxt is well-known for his remarkable solos, choreographed for himself and for a few powerful female performers. 'Deutsche Angst' is his first solo for another man, the young French dancer and choreographer Etienne Guilloteau. This piece, made specifically for his compact physique and based on a formal and physical idiom of movement, creates a male and earthly world. The surging percussion by Fedor Teunisse and a surprising stage design by Koenraad Dedobbeleer give the same choreography a different perspective every time. 'Deutsche Angst' was created for the Avignon Festival. It's true that in Antwerp this solo will not be performed on a Mediterranean courtyard with fine plane trees, but the choreography effortlessly survives the transition to the setting of the Red Hall.
