Authentic or traditional, historical or modern, old or new instruments? Performers of the music of that 'monstre sacré' J.S. Bach had been wrestling with these dilemmas for a long time. As a chamber music group whose programme includes both the early twentieth-century repertoire and the latest experimental trends, Het Collectief also has a tradition in adapting early music. On this occasion it is a highly individual reconstruction of the 'Muzikalisches Opfer', drawing freely on the instrumental and stylistic achievements of nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first century music. Without changing a single note in the score, Het Collectief succeeds in adding a whole range of timbres, ranging from Anton Webern to Jimi Hendrix. This is a concert experience that goes beyond the historical.
