Mozart wrote his first symphony when he was nine years old, Schubert was sixteen. And what are youngsters composing today? De Vara and the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble held a composition competition for youngsters up to the age of eighteen. At the festive first-round concert you can listen to this young work. Without rules or restrictions. Will it be a piece for the bagpipes and sax ensemble, a solo piece for the triangle or a work for a chorus of dogs? Everything is allowed and is everything is possible as long as it is an original, self-composed piece. The budding composers are assisted by the Jong NBE, a specially assembled ensemble of young, talented musicians from several music academies. At the end, six youngsters are chosen to work with composer Wim Henderickx and prepare their piece for performance. You can hear the result on Tuesday 18th December during the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble's alternative New Year's concert.
