Scratches and sequences. These are the overriding concepts with which Ictus brings together the works of Michael Gordon, Paul Oomen, Raphael Cendo and Riccardo Nova. Nova, whose works are the most prominent in this concert, is impossible to pigeon-hole. Proficiency in Karnatakan music (classical music from southern India), studies alongside Franco Donatoni in combination with DJ experiments in Milan and a close collaboration with the electro duo Pan Sonic make Riccardo Nova a phenomenon who is difficult to categorise. Both 'Ma's Sequence' and 'Thirteen' are led by a single rhythmical formula from South Indian music. Rhythmical but also sonorous sequences are also vital features of the other pieces in this concert. In the work by the 'Bang on a Can' founder Michael Gordon, the ensemble is divided into two rival groups. The young French artist Raphaël Cendo works with electronics like an ever-multiplying shadow.
